Today at exactly 3pm, our furbaby Aggie crossed the rainbow bridge.

Aggie was diagnosed with kidney failure a week earlier and upon the diagnosis have been treated at the vet with IV drips and immediately placed on renal diet. On 16th August, the vet was satisfied that she was doing much better and armed with her meds and more renal food, Aggie was allowed home with an appointment to see the vet on 22nd August 2012.

Aggie’s trip to the vet

Once home though, Aggie didn’t want to eat her renal food. She wanted her normal food and it became a challenge to coax her to eat and drink. She would follow me around asking for food and each time I feed her the renal food, she will eat a bit and just walk away. So I had to force feed her each time especially since she still got to take her meds after food.

However, on Sunday, 17th August, she ate her food herself. I was relieved. She slept most of the day.

At 2am in the morning, I fed her and had a few hours of quiet time when I changed her bandages (she had sores on her feet that the vet had attended to and needed bandage change daily). I spoke softly to her telling her how much I love her and that she will survive this and be strong but she need to eat and take her meds. She purred and it seems she was listening.  I placed her in her cage after that (she was kept in a cage at night because of the sores and because she was peeing all over the house – kidney patient cats do that).

Aggie loves boxes!

Around 7am, I woke up and check up on her and saw that she was sleeping, I stroked her head and I went back to bed. I awoke again at 2pm to feed Aggie once again and to give her meds. I saw that was lying down and that she was salivating badly. She was also having a hard time breathing and so Azwaj suggested holding her head up so she can breath. We were in a dilemma at to what to do then. We could bring her to the vet and have the vet do all sorts of things to her or we could let her go.

Me and Azwaj took turns holding her. There were times when it sounded like she stopped breathing but then she gasp for air again. I was changing into fresh clothing (Aggie peed on me) when Azwaj called me and asked me to hold her. The end was near. We could see it and we could feel it. I took her into my arms, spoke to her to let go of the pain and just run free to the other side. It looked then like she looked at me and said her goodbye. She took one last long breath and then she was gone.

I sob, uncontrolled sobbing as she was our baby. We went through her skin eczema, her food allergies and her two eye surgeries and she had always been strong and her spirits high. But this time she was defeated. She was no longer young and she was done fighting. In a way we were glad that she didn’t suffer as long as her sister Anja, who also suffered from kidney failure.

Azwaj buried her alongside Nina, who we lost in July. Aggie was 13 years old.

One month ago, Azwaj found four bundle of kittens joy on his way to the shop downstairs. Unfortunately three of them passed on one after another that same week which caused both A and me such grief and that left me with puffy eyes for almost a week 🙁

One of them, we named her Baby Mira (short for Miracle) survived through a bad eye infection and an abscess that burst under her right ear and is now thriving at 200grams. She is a very well behaved girl and is not fussy at all unless she is hungry (we all do right?.. lol).

Baby Mira is growing up so fast and we are enjoying each stage of her growth. From a dormant little thing, she is now walking albeit shakily (we can’t help but laugh at her) and letting us know what she likes and what she doesn’t like. She loves sleeping under the blanket with daddy, listening to daddy playing the guitar and watching the mouse move as daddy checked out guitar centre, and she loves snuggling with me after a full bottle feed. Ahh such joy.

Here’s a picture of Baby Mira with the bottle (thanks GP!)

and here’s one from today just after she woke up from her very long sleep.

Nina wasn’t looking well the week before and after a visit to the clinic, the vet told us that she may not be eating well because of her teeth. The thing is Doc Sharon can’t do anything to her without doing a blood test to make sure she will be able to handle being put under. She gave Nina some antibiotics and told us to monitor her changes. She also suggested we switch her to wet soft food.

We did as the vet suggested and Nina looked to be responsive. Whenever I put the bowl of food in front of her, she will respond, licked a few pieces but then stopped eating. So I had to force fed her which was not easy as she would push my hand away. The next best thing that I could do was to mash the food with water, put it in a syringe and give it to her that way. It was ok for the next few days but then she refused to even feed that way anymore and she would clamp her mouth shut and spurt our whatever I fed her.

She got worse on 3rd July refusing to even drink the water I syringed her with. By that time we sort of knew the end was end. We put a pretty romp on her to keep her warm and made her as comfortable as we possibly can. Azwaj would lie with her and the other kitties would come and keep them company.

However, Nina is pretty stubborn and strong. She would just lie for a bit and then she would move away preferring to be alone. So we placed her in the kitty room (with door opened) as she looked to be more comfy there. We kept checking on her making sure she was ok.

Nina passed away peacefully on 4th July 2014 at around 8am. Our baby turned 14 years old on 21st May.

When we adopted Tia in February, we told ourselves, that was it. That makes ten furkids and we thought that is about the right number for the kitty room. Little did we know that come June and just a week after Tia was spayed, these four bundle of joys would come into our lives.

The story is much the same way as how we got Awal. Azwaj was leaving for the downstairs shop when he called me to the corridor and said he heard newborn kittens meowing. I didn’t hear anything and just dismissed it as the jungle sounds and close the door when he left. Not a few minutes later, he came back and told me that there were indeed four tiny lives in the gate area of an empty apartment near the lift and there was no mommy cat in sight. If we were to leave the babies, they would probably die from the cold or be eaten by other male cats for sure. I immediately got the torchlight and asked A to get some fresh milk from the shop downstairs.

The rest as they say is history.

And.. here they are. three white and one orange/brown little bundle of joys. They don’t have any names yet coz we’re not sure of their gender. But seriously though we can’t think of any names at all right now. Any suggestions?

Adorable Babies

Aren’t they simply precious? My heart is overflowing with love for them despite their feeding every 3hours and peeing all over me causing me shower at 3am in the morning.. lol..

Have you ever cleaned your coffee table and noticed a streak of white powder that sort of looked like dashed line? Well chances are those came from your cat or dog not so desirable spot. Disgusting to even think about it right.. especially if your lap is one of the areas they love to sleep on as well. Imagine that on your clothes.. Yucks!

And that is why you have to deworm you pets. It’s not so much the fact that it is disgusting but also for the fact that is the best for your pets health as well. We dewormed the blogger cats once every three months and so far so good. Worm free!

There are lots of places you can get your deworming done. Some of you who are not used to putting pills down their pets throat normally opt for the vet but for me it’s a a breeze simply coz the kitties are trained from young to have fingers in their mouth. Lol! Anyways.. this dog dewormer and some of the cat dewormer on that site works too if you want to try it to give them to your pets.

Good luck!

Many pet owners have assumed that bamboo flooring simply isn’t an option when pets live in the house. However, there are many great flooring options that can be safely used with indoor pets. Bamboo is a great way to have floors that work well for virtually any type of home, even with pets present.

bamboo flooringStrand woven home bamboo flooring is the best option for pet owners. The difference is that the bamboo used in these planks has been woven, providing a better bond than other bamboo products. They are also subjected to heating and compression, making them even stronger.

One thing that homeowners do need to be vigilant about is how susceptible these floors are to scratches. Though some types of bamboo are harder than others, many have found it helpful to use flooring samples to see how well they resist scratches first.

Regularly trimming a pet’s nails is the best way to ensure that the floor doesn’t get scratched. Pets that are difficult about having their claws trimmed might be good candidates for soft paws, which are inserts placed over the claws to prevent scratching.

Ordinary scratches are easy to get out during the buffing and cleaning process. The most effective cleaners used on bamboo flooring feature aluminum oxide. It’s important to carefully check the ingredients used in a cleaning product to ensure that it will do the job.

Preventing spills from food is a better alternative to trying to cope with them after they happen. Spill-proof bowls are best. However, using rubber floor mats on pet and eating areas is also a good option.

It’s always important for pet owners to do what they can to eliminate accidents. Cleaning up urine right away is especially important. This is because urine is capable of creating very visible stains that are tricky to get rid of. If a pet does have an accident that leaves a strain behind, consider sanding and refinishing to restore it to its former beauty.

Bamboo is becoming a flooring type of choice for many homeowners. It is not only very durable, but is one of the most sustainable types available. Pet owners can safely consider this as an option.

When we’re tired, agitated, or upset, it’s always nice to have a “happy place” where we know we’re safe and comfortable. Be it a favorite chair, your bed, or a home office, a place that we enjoy and is explicitly ours can almost always make us feel better. When you have these places, it’s comforting to know you’ll never have to worry about finding somebody in your recliner, or come home to your crisply-made bed swirled in a twist of blankets.

This piece of mind is incredibly important to us. So, wouldn’t it then make sense that our pets would appreciate the same thing? Of course it does! For all the unconditional love and friendship our pets give us, giving them a bed or cushion all their own is really the least we can do for them.

Pet beds not only give pets something that becomes theirs, it will also make their lives happier and more comfortable. Would you want to lie down on a cold linoleum floor? Probably not, but you could definitely see yourself in a cozy memory foam bed, and your pets will too.

Adequately padded pet pads and cushions will ease the burden on their joints, helping with the aging process as well as the recovery process should a furry friend require surgery. The Foam Factory, an online source of pet beds, can provide the comfort your pet needs.

The best part though, is when your pet feels good, it makes you feel good too. So giving them a place to call their own really is a win-win!

When your life is hectic, it’s easy to forget to take your pet to the vet. There are tons of reasons to skip going to the vet, but when you do, you risk your pet’s health. As a general rule, veterinarians are there to prevent your pets from getting sick; they also treat your pets when something is wrong.

How Often Should Your Pets See The Veterinarian?

Generally speaking, your pets should see the veterinarian at least once a year. If they are young and healthy, you’ll quickly be able to notice if something is wrong with them. As they age, your pets might need more frequent care; illnesses in old age tend to advance rapidly. A quick checkup every six months is ideal for your pets when they start getting older.

Your veterinarian will give your pet the vaccines it needs to stay healthy; coincidentally, these vaccines need to be administered every year. When you make sure your pet gets all of its vaccinations, it’s very likely to stay healthy throughout the year.

If your pet is showing the following symptoms, make sure to get them to the nearest animal emergency hospital:

  • Decreased Appetite
  • Extreme Weight Loss
  • Lethargy Or Depression
  • Constant Vomiting Or Diarrhea

Use common sense when it comes to your pet’s health; if you take pets to their scheduled appointments, they lead a healthy and happy life. When your pet is showing real symptoms of an illness, don’t hesitate to bring it to a veterinarian as soon as you can; you may end up saving its life.

Pet boarding facilities can be the perfect solution for people who don’t have anywhere to leave their pets when they go on vacation. Perhaps you’re going to a destination where pets aren’t allowed, or maybe you just don’t want to deal with the hassle of taking your pet along with you. Whether you feel like your pet would be more comfortable at a pet boarding facility or whatever the reason you can’t or don’t want to take your pet with you, there are plenty of facilities across the nation where you can learn more about boarding your pet.

Some pet boarding facilities offer pets their own rooms for them to stay in complete with luxury pet beds. Many people fear putting their pets in pet boarding facilities because they’re afraid that their pets won’t have good accommodations. However, not all pet boarding facilities require pets to stay housed in cases close to other pets. There are some pet boarding facilities that offer pets their own luxurious accommodations just like the ones that we would expect for ourselves.

Additionally, just like we enjoy resorts and spas, so do our pets. That’s why some pet boarding facilities come complete with spas for pets that offer pets a variety of washes and grooming services. Nobody wants his or her pampered pooch or spoiled feline to come home dirty. Pet boarding facilities that have a spa on site keep your pets looking and smelling good for their return home. You can even elect to sign your pet up for 15-minute massages at some pet boarding spas and facilities where those services are offered.

Many pet boarding facilities also facilitate socialization of pets. Therefore, they offer group play sessions where pets can play and frolic with one another under the supervision of certified trainers and pet service specialists, of course. Most facilities offer plenty of recreations time and treats to their pet guests as well.

If you want your pet to stay in a resort that is just as luxurious as your own, it is possible to find luxurious pet resorts and spas. Your pet is a member of your family, so you, no doubt, want him or her to be treated as such with a vacation and accommodations as extravagant as your own. Plus, when you place your pet in a luxurious pet boarding facility, you can rest easy in the knowledge that your beloved pet is comfortable and well taken care of.

We were having dinner at Bukit Indah when this cutie pie came close to our table. We tried as much to ignore her as much as possible but then we had extra food on our table and we decided to give her a piece of chicken. She came when we called but when we offered the piece of chicken she just looked at it and looked so puzzled. We decided that she probably didn’t recognise what it was and so Azwaj decided to cut it into smaller pieces and feed it to her and true enough after trying a piece she started eating. Then there was a portion that was slightly hard and she stopped and “complained” to us. Again Azwaj helped to cut the piece and once again she continued to eat. I was watching her intently and I fell in love with the way she meows and the way her eyes looked. Azwaj asked if I wanted to adopt her. We talked about it for a bit while waiting for the waiter to return our change and before I know it, she was in my arms as we walked back to the motorbike! By chance, we had our backpack and so in she went. She was so well behaved throughout the 15minutes ride. In fact she fell asleep holding my fingers. Awww right?

Welcome Tia Ling Ling please people. Isn’t she adorable?

We’re are not sure when it happened but apparently all the furkids, with exception of Nina, Aggie and Smokey are very scared of loud noises. We did not realise how scared they were until there was a fumigation exercise at our condo area. They were not only scared but actually made scared loud voice like as if telling us to make it stop. Poor babies.. I guess mommy won’t be getting any trombones at guitar center any time soon then eh?

Daddy sure has lots of guitars in his collection. He has Fender, Ibanez, Hammer and Krammer. I don’t think he has anything from the Keeley Guitars Collection though. We would love to get him something that has to do with guitars seeing how he is a guitar freak but we think we need to get daddy a new hobby.. something that has to do with playing with us.. hmmm..

It’s Awal birthday today! Well not quite his birthday but more like his 1st year with us as his forever home and our furkid.  Awal, the baby kitten (he was about 2 months by the look of it), came to us one fateful night when Azwaj “met” him on his way to buy butter for my lava cake.

The rest like they say is history. Awal is now a very boisterous young neutered young mancat and is happily being a terror in the bloggercats household and making sure that all the rest of his siblings are getting the exercise they need by chasing them endlessly. The only time when there is peace is when he is sleeping.. Lol.. that’s our Awal!

Happy birthday my darling Awal. Mommy and Daddy and the rest of your sibling (we hope)  loves you so much!

Mommy found this video on youtube and she thought it was super cute.. so she wants to share it with readers at Bloggercats.

I just can’t believe they are born so small, tiny and fragile and that they can grow to be so huge and very strong. I especially love looking at their eyes with that black patch looking like a pirate as much as I like looking at the penguin that looks like they are wearing tuxedos. Enjoy the video!

Having pets, to me, means you have another member of the family to love. Me and Azwaj will do anything to ensure their well-being. From their own kitty home, to vet visit, to making sure they have the best food for their diet. They are our kids, furkids that is, and yes, we are pawparents.

So it saddens me when they are ill or involved in any incident and we will do anything to make them whole again. When our furkid, Anja got kidney failure, we started feeding her with a special diet meant for kidney patients. We also got her the meds the vets suggested. The bill was exorbitant but the same way you would do anything for a family member, Anja got the best treatment that we can afford till she passed on.

Then Jam Jam fell from our 6th storey service balcony despite all the reinforcement that Azwaj had put up and we were hopeful when she survived the fall but unfortunately due to the complication after her surgery, Jam Jam didn’t only left our heart bare but also our wallet dry after she crossed the rainbow bridge.

Sometimes I wished there was a pet insurance in in Malaysia that we can take up for the furkids. Having 9 furkids now I can’t imagine if two of them have to seek medical help at the same time.  I mean cat insurance should  be available here already. Something like what E & L insurance is providing. They have all sorts of  pet insurance available. From dog to cats, from bird to horse insurance, they have them all, which is pretty awesome. With coverage of up to £6,000 of vet fees, I know that I won’t have to worry about making sure our furkids have the best care available to them. The cat insurance offered by E & L not only cover vet bills, it also  covers advertising cost and the cost of a reward should your cat become lost or stolen.

There are basically three kinds of coverage you can choose from : –

  • Silver cat insurance – vet’s fees up to £4,000
  • Gold cat insurance – vet’s fees up to £5,000
  • Diamond cat insurance – vet’s fees up to £6,000

Their pet cat insurance cover also includes: –

  • Cattery fees to cover the cost of boarding, personal accident, loss by theft or straying, accidental damage and more
  • Cheap cat insurance premiums with up to 25% introductory online premium discount
  • 10% multi cat discount when insuring more than one cat

When oh when will we have access to such insurance cover here?
